Rainbow Unicorn Card

I made this card for a little girl turning 5 years old. Magical Unicorn by Pink Fresh Studios is one of my only "little girl" stamp sets so I often use it for girl birthdays, but I still love it! I'd been mulling the idea of using it to make a rainbow unicorn for some time and was happy to finally make that happen!

I began by die cutting the ears and horn from white card stock using the coordinating Magical Unicorn dies. The horn was embossed in gold and I added Wink of Stella to the ears to give them some sparkle, though that is hard to see in the photo.

Then I die cut 6 of the smaller flowers, also from white card stock.  I looked through my inks to find a rainbow of colors I thought looked good together. Using ink blending brushes, I  colored the white flowers in the rainbow hues. I did it this way because I didn't necessarily have the card stock colors I wanted, but I did have the ink colors.

Once I had all of that done, I arranged them in ROYGBV order. Try as I might, though, I just couldn't find a way to make all six flowers look good. I ended up removing the green flower altogether and just using green in the leaves. Having only the five flowers, with the yellow at the center, was much more pleasing compositionally. The vein lines on the flowers also have Wink of Stella on them, and I went over the little dots in the centers with a gold pen.

All of the elements were adhered onto a white panel die cut with the Card Front Element Builder die. The unicorn's eyelashes were stamped in black but embossed in clear to give them some shine. Finally, I added in a few of the star clusters including in the stamp set around the top in Soft Stone ink.

Thanks for reading and I hope the little girl liked her birthday card!

Botanicuts Succulent: Healing Wishes

An old friend of mine is unfortunately going through some tough times health wise so I made a get well card to hopefully brighten his day a bit. I chose to use my new BotaniCuts Succulent dies from The Greetery. I thought succulents would be more masculine than flowers.

I die cut both a large and small succulent and used blending brushes to ink them in. I started by lightly inking just the outside edges in Seedless Preserves distress oxide ink. The larger of the two succulents also uses Citrine in the lighter areas and Leafy for the darker green. Both those inks are from The Stamp Market. The smaller succulent is almost identical, except instead of Citrine I used PTI's Limeade Ice for my lighter green shade.

The sentiment, from Papertrey Ink's set Keep it Simple: Surgery, was stamped in black and then embossed with clear embossing powder. The succulents are framed inside a Geometrix: Hexagon die cut and everything was mounted to a panel of Soft Stone card stock die cut with the largest Crimped Frame die.

This was my first time using the BotaniCuts Succulent dies, so before I started this card I went back and re-watched some of Betsy Veldman's videos explaining how she colored the die cuts. She has videos for both ink blending and watercoloring. While I was watching, both of my boys snuggled up next to me and watched with me, and then they wanted to make their own succulents! So of course I die cut a few extra for them, got out their art supplies, and watched them create absolutely beautiful succulents of their own. Proud mama!

Thanks for reading!
