Dino-mite Valentines

I know Valentine's day was a few weeks ago, but better late than never, right? These are the Valentine's I made for my son's kindergarten class, and I just love how they turned out! His school has a "no treat" policy when it comes to class parties, so we had to come up with something else besides candy to hand out. My son is dinosaur crazy so we thought it would be fitting to give each of his classmates one of these small toy dinosaurs as part of the Valentine. I saw an idea similar to this online and knew I could recreate it with my own supplies. I love it when that happens!

I die cut enough white hearts so each of his classmates would have one. Then I die cut green hearts, or usually just a large bottom portion to save paper, in the same size. I then used the grass border die to trim off the top and leave room for the sentiment. After gluing the grass to the white heart base and stamping the sentiment it was time to attach the dinosaurs. As each one is a slightly different shape, I had to custom cut where the holes were for each Valentine. I did this by placing the toy dinosaur on the heart and using a pencil to lightly mark on either side of its belly.  Then I used my very handy Fiskars Eyelet Setter to punch holes over the marks. Boy was my hand sore after 48 holes! Ha! Then I was able to tie the dinosaur onto the Valentine with baker's twine. Each dinosaur also has at least one glue dot to make certain it was secure and wouldn't wiggle loose. On the back I stamped "Happy Valentine's Day" and my son signed his name.

I also made a Valentine for his teacher. I didn't think she would care if she got a plastic dinosaur so her dino is die cut and colored in with colored pencils. I also replaced the word "friend" with "teacher" on hers.

I hope the kids enjoyed them!

Dinosaur Birthday Card

A few weeks ago my oldest son was invited to a classmate's birthday party and this is the card I made for him. The t-rex is colored in with colored pencils and I added a googly for fun. I drew in the balloon strings by hand (which is why they are a little wonky looking) because I couldn't get the strings that come with the Birthday Balloons stamp set to line up to look like the t-rex was holding them. I hope he liked it!
