Egg-stra Special Easter

Up today is a sweet little Easter card. This is a case of a card where the background really dictated the rest of the design. What I mean by that is after making the Mother's Day cards in my last post, it occurred to me that creating another gingham background using both the pink AND the yellow inks would be really pretty. I tried it out and loved it! So using the Square Dance Stencils by The Greetery, I blended both Spun Sugar and Squeezed Lemonade distress oxide ink onto the first layer, creating a really pretty orange color. Then with the second layer I used only Spun Sugar, and with the third layer only Squeezed Lemonade. I had no real idea of what I was going to make ahead of time, but when I saw the cheery gingham pattern and cut it down with the Crimped Frame die, it just looked like it needed to become an Easter card. :) 

I looked through my Easter supplies and just started pulling things out and playing. First I embossed my little bunny (from a retired PTI set called Bunny Blessings) onto Kraft card stock and cut it out with the matching die. I also die cut a bunch of the flowers and leaves that are also in that set and inked them up using the same colors as on these cards. The colors I used were Pink Pirouette, Pale Peony, Barely Banana, Daffodil Delight and Vintage Jadeite. 

I used my Big Egg die to cut a white egg and used that as a place for my sentiment, which is from Hoppy Easter. And actually it helped determine the sentiment as well. I love the pun of an "Egg-stra special Easter"  being on an egg die cut! A little butterfly, also from Bunny Blessings, was added to the top of the egg. My entire main panel was popped up with a large piece of fun foam behind it and adhered to my white card base. This was a fun project and it went out to its new home in yesterday's mail. I hope it arrives in time!

Some Bunny Loves You

Easter is coming up quickly and as we'll have my niece and nephew with us this year I wanted to make small Easter baskets for each of them. Papertrey Ink's Berry Basket die was perfect for this! The blue basket was die cut from Spring Rain card stock and the pink basket was die cut from Sweet Blush card stock.

I made cute little tags to go on each basket by die cutting a Tag Sale #3 from Rustic White card stock. The background was stamped with the Nifty Plaid background in Spring Rain ink. The bunny, also cut from Spring Rain, is from Sugar Pea Designs Egg Cut Away Window die. I got the idea to add the carrot after seeing The Greetery's newest release with their Botanicuts Carrot die. I looked through my supplies and found a carrot from a retired Papertrey Ink set called Vegetable Garden. I was so happy that it was the perfect size to go with my bunny! I have to say it never occurred to me to use this carrot for an Easter card, so thank you to Betsy Veldman for that piece of inspiration!

I also included the little sentiment from another retired Papertrey set called Bunny Basket. It was so appropriate for this project! It is stamped on another Sugar Pea Designs die called Sentiment Strips. The bunny, carrot and sentiment are all popped up with foam tape.

I tied a bow of white satin ribbon onto the handle of the basket and then used thin jute button twine to tie the tag onto the bow. 

The basket die doesn't come with a handle so I made my own. I found the very old blog post where this die was introduced because I remembered that Nicole Heady had made a handle for her basket. I followed her instructions and it worked great. 

And here's the pink basket! It is done entirely the same way as the blue one, I just swapped out all the blue for pink. I did fill this basket with white paper shred while I used kraft shred for my nephew's basket.

I'm really excited with how these turned out and can't wait to give them to my niece and nephew in a few weeks. I'll fill them with some fun goodies like bubbles and chalk and a *little* candy. :)

Wishing You a Joyous Easter

Ever the procrastinator. I didn't get my Easter cards finished until today. It was a mad scramble to get them put together, addressed, and in the mail before the mailman came for there to be any hope of them arriving in time. Any other procrastinators out there? Nothing like a deadline to get things done!

Anyway, I was very happy to finally play with these super cute Easter products from Sugar Pea Designs. I actually bought them to make cards last Easter, but didn't get to it in time (see above statement on procrastination). 

For the focal point I used the Egg Cut-Away Window die. It is so intricate and detailed! I actually die cut the scallop border and the egg window in one pass through my die cutting machine by using washi tape to hold everything in place. Once that die cutting was done, I positioned the green panel over my white card base and lightly traced the egg outline in pencil. Once I removed the green panel, I could easily see where to blend my ink to create the background behind the bunny. For this card I used Hawaiian Shores ink at the top and blended down into Spun Sugar and a bit of Picked Raspberry at the bottom.

The Easter Word is die cut from Hawaiian Shores card stock. Isn't that a beautiful script font?! I used a glue pen to adhere it to my card.

The sentiment, from Easter Wishes, is stamped in Hawaiian Shores ink and stamped onto a small white strip of card stock, then popped up with foam tape.

 The second card is the same as the first, just with slightly different colors.

In this version I blended Squeezed Lemonade down into Spun Sugar distress oxide ink in the background, and the Easter Word is die cut from Raspberry Fizz card stock.

Easter will be very different for many of us this year as we watch live streamed Easter services from home instead of attending worship in person. But wherever we are, we can rejoice in the knowledge that He is Risen! Happy Easter!

Hoppy Easter

I realize we are well past Easter but I wanted to share this card just the same. This is the card I made for my two boys. The original plan had been to make a different card for each of them, but since this wasn't made until the Saturday night before Easter they had to share!

I cut my card base with the Noted: A2 Scallop die from Stamper's Select White card stock. The little bunny image is from Papertrey Ink's Bunny Basket set. I picked out a pastel rainbow of inks and then used my stamp positioner to make sure my row would fit within the card. Simple and sweet!

Daffodil Easter Cards

Happy Good Friday, friends! Here are the Easter cards I made this year. I took my inspiration from a card Maile Belles made a while back that I have always admired. My version is a smaller 4 bar size.  The daffodil image is the same one I used on my Easter tag, from Papertrey Ink's set Year of Flowers: Collection.



The background flower was stamped repeatedly in Crumb Cake ink, while the image on the tag was stamped in Daffodil Delight ink. The notched banner is actually a Tag Sale #5 die cut, with the rounded top trimmed off. I tied the end with baker's twine and adhered it with foam tape for some dimension.

This second version is much like my Easter tag. This time I cut the notched tag from watercolor paper and embossed the daffodil in white. I then went over it using an aqua painter brush and Daffodil Delight ink to fill it in and reveal the white outline of the flower.

Daffodil Easter Tag

Today I have a little project to share, an Easter tag! The daffodils have been blooming like crazy around here the last few weeks and so I was inspired to use this image from Papertrey Ink's set Year of Flowers: Collection. It always makes me so happy when the daffodils and crocuses start to bloom because it means spring is finally here!

I die cut a tag from watercolor paper and stamped the daffodil image in Versa Mark ink. It was then embossed in white. Using an aqua painter brush and Daffodil Delight ink, I went back over and filled in the image, concentrating the color in the center of the bloom. I layered a second tag behind to add more color. The sentiment strip is cut from Kiwi Kiss cardstock and also embossed in white. The tissue paper is tied with white cotton string but I used yellow and white baker's twine to tie on the tag.

Easter Pillow Boxes

One of my family's Easter traditions is to set out small treats (preferably chocolate!) at each family member's place setting at the main meal. My parents will be joining us for Easter dinner this year so I thought I would continue the tradition but also create some cute packaging for my sweet offerings. 

I used the Essential Pillow Box die by Papertrey Ink to create my packaging. These were so easy to make! If you are like me and have waited until the last minute to make Easter favors, these work up in no time.

I made the happy discovery that this pillow box die will just barely fit on a 6x6 piece of pattern paper. So I looked through my stash of 6x6 pattern paper stacks and picked an assortment of fun spring colors and patterns.

Here are my assembled boxes, now they just need decorating!

I tied each box with ribbon and tucked a banner die stamped with the sentiment underneath. You could also write the recipient's name on the tag and use these as place cards.

I think they turned out pretty cute!

I filled each pillow box with a few Cadbury caramel eggs. Yum!
